Scientific activities
The department was established in 1968 at the same time with its predecessor of the university. It is derived from the Department of Road Construction and Railway Construction (1993). Its scientific field is transport infrastructure, especially planning, construction, maintenance and the operation of transport infrastructure, as well as the development and operation of settlements. Its task is to train and further educate professionals on the above mentioned fields. R&D, planning and consulting are also very important. The department is dominant in training civil engineers. It is responsible for the civil engineer BSc degree with specializations of transport infrastructure and municipal engineering as well as for the infrastructure civil engineer MSc degree. The department also takes part in offering training for students from other departments and it operates the Geo-informatics and Road Construction Laboratory of the university. 8 of the 16 lecturers are scientifically qualified. The main focus areas of the department are: planning, maintenance and operation of roads and railways, traffic engineering and road safety, and environment-friendly modes of transport.
